A BUTTON PRESSED REVEALS THE SECRETS OF WAFTNESS
The moment that Josh pressed the button that said ‘Do Not Press This Button, a door opened in the walled panel which led to a beautifully decorated room. The walls inside were painted with murals of flower-filled meadows. The ceiling was decorated with sky that showed sunrise on one side of the room to darkness with a moon and stars on the other side. Golden decoration weaved up into a central clock that resembled a sundial and circled a beautiful diamante droplet chandelier. The droplets looked like rain.
‘Ohhh pretty,’ said Josh walking through the door into the room.
Tingle quickly ran after him and the pair stood looking up. The room seemed to have different levels of light. ‘What is this room?’ asked Tingle. ‘It is very pretty.’
Sebastian sighed, ‘this room reminds me of what it is like outside.’
‘Oh,’ said Tingle. ‘Why don’t you just go outside?’
‘Erm… because I am imprisoned here,’ Sebastian said as though it was obvious.
Tingle was confused. How could Sebastian be imprisoned when there were no guards? She didn’t say anything, instead she looked around the room and noticed there were some other decorated areas. One sign said ‘Definitely Do Not Touch!’ Tingle smiled to herself and was just about to walk towards the button but Sebastian blocked her way.
‘Oh no you don’t! We are going to eat now. You have both made one button press too many already!’
‘I like secret rooms,’ said Josh. ‘They are fun.’
‘Yes they are,’ said Sebastian ushering the pair of them towards the Pongplex.
‘Do you have lots of secret rooms?’ Tingle asked.
‘A few. They are not secret to me because I live here,’ he said noticing how excited the children were about such rooms.
There was a room with a golden glow to their right.
‘What’s that?’ Tingle asked darting towards the room.
‘That’s my heavenly aroma room. That is where I create fragrances that are truly beautiful and would make people feel joy.’ His face lit up and he seemed to relax. ‘That is where I spend my time combining the most beautiful scents – scents that bring joy, happiness and love.’
Tingle stood by the door and turned to look at Sebastian who seemed relaxed and happy when he talked about his nice perfumes. She really didn’t understand, surely Sebastian Stinkworthy made nasty smells and intended to make a huge stink to make people feel bad.
‘I don’t get it,’ said Tingle. ‘It doesn’t make sense that nice smells make you happy when you want to make a giant stink.’
‘I will explain a few things to you over dinner,’ he replied.
None of it made sense. Was Sebastian a proper baddy? What if he was just really clever at pretending to be a bit weird? What if Sebastian wasn’t what they thought he was?
